It’s that time of year again when I like to reflect on the past 12 months for Mel Langton Art and pick my 2023 top 5 commissions.
2023 has been yet another turbulent year for many, myself included, but again there is so much I should celebrate.
Looking back I’m incredibly thankful for the fun commissions and opportunities that have come my way. It’s even more exciting looking back at pieces that came up by surprise. They are often my favourites.
For that reason, it’s been incredibly difficult to narrow down my 2023 work to just 5 favourites. There are so many more pieces I’d like to include, plus some I still can’t show you yet. Spoiler alert, January will hopefully be unveiling 6 new pieces of public art!
Please think of my chosen 5 in no particular order and more as my pick of really fun commissions to produce.
Here’s goes with my favourite 5…
Trendy Teamwear
For this one I’m cheating and including two commissions, as they are quite similar.
This year I was commissioned to create my first repeat pattern design including custom portraits. This fun fabric pattern design was for a cycle team kit, to be worn on their Greek tour.
A few months later I was commissioned by Gelder Group to create a repeat pattern design for their Dragon Boat Race kit.
A unique way to show off the teams with a colourful and eye-catching design.
A Fun Vlog Logo
I feel a little sneaky including this one, as ‘Luke’s Book Nook’ is the latest blog and vlog of my dear partner Luke Winch. That aside, I had to include this commission as it was so much fun creating his portrait and little animated GIFs to accompany his channel.
A Whole Lotta Heart
After months in the making, June 2023 saw the official launch of the St Barnabas Hospice HeArt Trail. I designed and painted 4 HeArts for the Trail, along with being the Artist Ambassador.
The colourful Lincolnshire art trail ran throughout the summer, raising a whopping £150k for our Hospice. You can read more about it here.
Kraken Killer
It was very hard to narrow down the portrait commissions I’ve created this year to just one favourite. I put my heart and soul in to each one I create!
A standout though this year for me had to be this “Kraken Killer’ custom portrait.
Kick ass steam punk vibes ahoy! And a dribbly tentacle. I couldn’t resist!
I’d like to say a huge thank you to all my wonderful customers, clients, followers and supporters. You absolutely rock and have helped my small business to complete another year.
I Can Draw On Your Windows!
My final choice had to be the festive window display I was commissioned to create for Ask Italian Restaurant, Lincoln. Using pens sponsored by Edding UK, it was a pleasure to create a fun and whimsical Christmas scene, featuring Lincoln locations and plenty of pizza!
I look forward to 2024 and am excited for the new artwork I’m itching to create and opportunities that come my way.
I’d like to wish you all a very happy New Year!
If you’d like to find out more about working with me I’d love to hear from you!
