A couple of months back I was commissioned by the City of Lincoln Council to create a very special design for them.
This year sees the 40th anniversary of the Lincoln Christmas Market. One of the largest Christmas markets in Europe.
To celebrate this, I was commissioned to create a colourful design that could be sold as art prints at Lincoln Visitor Information Centre.
The brief was to create a piece that includes Lincoln’s popular landmarks, along with Christmas market itself.
The design would also need to mention that the market was established in 1982, rather than be specific to the 40th anniversary.
The Fun is in the Detail
It was also important that the design featured the Mayor of Lincoln. Lincoln is twinned with the German town of Neustadt an der Weinstrasse, so we wanted to include crests that represent this.
Familiar Christmas market images that might spring to mind, such as mulled wine, carol singers and the ferris wheel, are all featured in the design. There’s even Santa and the famous German sausages!
I was also asked to hide the Lincoln Christmas Market mascot, Bailey the Polar Bear, in the scene. See if you can spot him!
My Print at the Market
The image was huge fun to create, as I love drawing people and designs with lots of fun detail to spot.
I was also delighted to have the chance to visit the Christmas Market again this year and spot the art print for sale!
The 11” x 14 art prints are still available to buy at Lincoln Visitor Information Centre, whilst stocks last.
