Romans To Railways Project Complete

Officially unveiled on April 9th 2024, the Romans to Railways community rail project at Lincoln railway station is now finally complete.

With the Mayor of Lincoln cutting the ribbon, we actually managed to ward off the recent wind and rain. The sun even popped out for the occasion!

From the original callout for artists, back in 2020, I had no idea that this project would take me on such an amazing 3 year journey.

Initially, I designed 12 pieces of artwork for display at Lincoln railway station. But as the project grew it became a huge collaborative piece, working with local schools, community groups and sponsors.

You can find out more about the initial project at my blog post here.

The Final Leg

Last year I completed the final leg of the ‘Romans to Railways’ journey. Working with wonderful local sponsors to bring their design ideas to life, I created the last 6 designs of the project.

These sponsors included Siemens, Lincolnshire Co-op, The LCVYS, The University of Lincoln and Lincoln Arts Centre.

As well as welcoming visitors to the city and brightening the journey of commuters, the designs help to showcase Lincoln’s places of interest and rich history.

I hope this colourful new artwork will be enjoyed by locals and visitors to the City for many years to come.

Finally, I’d like to say a huge thank you again to the sponsors who made this project happen:

EMR, Community Rail Network, North Notts and Lincs Community Rail Partnership, Lincoln City Foundation and the Rotary Club of Lincoln Colonia.
